Abstract This paper reviews the development of economic geography in the 20th century from three angles:geography scale in research,organisational change,and research philosophies and methods.Four characteristics were then summarised:region-enterprise synthetic analysis,globalization of economic activity,new industrial districts,and the combination of multiple research methods.Economic geography research in the turn of the century should emphasize the relationships between human and nature,between global and local,between regional development and regional need,and between enterise grow th and regional development.
